| 英文描述 | STYPANDRA GLAUCA is a shrubby perennial with erect stems up to 1 m long, and narrow, stem-clasping leaves 5-20 cm long (pictured in paper by Whittington et al.). It grows in Australia, and has been associated with blindness and occasionally sudden death in livestock. In an outbreak of blindness in goats, blindness was associated with optic neuropathy. Histologically the intracanalicular portion of the optic nerve was sclerotic, while the intracranial portion of the nerve and tracts were degenerating. This disease could not be reproduced using plants harvested after they had finished flowering, and S. GLAUCA may be toxic only for a short period while flowering in the spring. No goats which became blind recovered, but animals with depression without blindness had a good prognosis. |
